NOLA trip!

greetings What an amazing place!! I really had a complete different idea of New Orleans. I thought “Party, beads, drink, party” . I do not drink, so I really thought this place would not be for “me”. Boy was i wrong!  (In a wonderful way!) Flight:  To NOLA (D) From Nola to PHL (A) We booked our flights on Delta 😦  I have only flown with delta twice and BOTH times ended up being put up in a hotel overnight due to a cancellation. Well, it happened again this time.  We were stuck in Atlanta.  The great thing about it?  It all worked out.  Thanks to my mom for keeping my anxiety level down a bit ❤ The slight detour did not affect our plans at all! Thursday morning (bright and early) we were heading to NOLA to start of jam packed, fun filled day!   Our flight was easy and perfect.  We took a taxi from the airport to the hotel.  It cost us $33 for the taxi, versus $40 for a hotel shuttle. It was quick and easy 🙂 Hotel:  Wyndham Garden Baronne  (B) wyndham wyndham2 We arrived at our hotel.  We booked 2 nights at the Wyndham Garden Baronne  http://www.baronneplaza.com/. I got a great deal and heard wonderful things.  I am pleased with our stay and experience. They were very accommodating and pleasant and the front desk was ALWAYS helpful in answering my questions (Mostly how to get places!!)   It really was the perfect location for us.  It was about a mile from the French Quarter. Far enough from the commotion to feel relaxing (Besides the construction going on across the street, but this seems to be very common around the entire area at this time)  There is a little coffee shop in the lobby (PJ’s) but beware early birds, it does NOT open until 7 am!! I had to walk around the block to McDonalds for my first cup each morning 🙂  I love Mickey D’s coffee, so no complaints here! There also is the City Diner attached. We did not eat there, but it is very convenient and I hear the flapjacks are really great!!   There are so many wonderful places to eat, i was very careful with our selections ! We quickly dropped our bags off, changed and were STILL able to make our noon lunch reservations at The Commander’s Palace. Prop’s to my mom for keeping up with me (she did awesome!)  I was a pretty brutal time Nazi. FYI, do NOT travel with teachers, we are stubborn, strict and time oriented 🙂 Public transportation (Street cars and buses)  B We walked two blocks to the nearest street car (FUN!)  We bought at $3 pass that was good all day!  The street car ride was a perfect start to see the city a bit as we just arrived. It was a beautiful and breezy day. Just perfect all around.  Due to construction we had to stop and transfer to a bus (not a problem at all) which took us the rest of the way to the Garden District.  We got off at Washington.  It was a very short walk to Commander’s Palace.  We wanted to see the beautiful cemeteries and were able to walk through one located right across the street from Commander’s Palace.  It was really beautiful BUT bring sneakers or flip flops if you are heading to commanders for lunch, its very rocky and a lot of uneven pavement!  I  had to switch shoes with my mom bc she decided to wear heels!  I did not envision things working out very well if we did not switch 🙂 I mentioned before, I am a teacher.  The teacher in me……..made an itinerary.  I  loved it , it was very useful and I really felt like i was able to do and see everything I wanted, and did not feel as if i missed out on anything important!  It was a bit anxiety producing for me (not for mom!) because I wanted to make sure we made our reservations to places, but overall it was very easy.  I would have liked to shower after our swamp tour instead of going RIGHT to lunch, but it all worked out well and for the best (its not like i was muddy and dirty and all!)
